1945 - Reînhumarea rămășițelor lui Constantin Brâncoveanu în Biserica Sfântul Gheorghe Nou

Lucrarea înfățișează un eveniment social de mare importanță: procesiunea care a avut loc cu ocazia reînhumării lui Constantin Brâncoveanu la Biserica Sfântul Gheorghe Nou la 21 mai 1934. Central este piața din fața bisericii, populată de multe grupuri de oamenii care au venit să privească. În plan secund, se înalță biserica încadrată de arbori înalți, înverziți. De o parte și de alta a pieței, se înalță clădiri cu prăvălii la parter. Cortegiul se îndreaptă spre biserică prin partea dreapta, ordonat, cu multe steaguri naționale care marchează importanța evenimentului. În interiorul bisericii se află două pietre funerare, una acoperă mormântul domnitorului Ioan Mavrocordat (1716-1719), iar cealaltă lespede, fără inscripţie, se află pe mormântul ctitorului Constantin Vodă Brâncoveanu (1654-1714), ucis la Istanbul, împreună cu cei patru fii ai săi. Abia la începutul secolului trecut s-a descoperit că domitorul este înmormântat sub lespedea fără nume. Trebuie amintit aici şi faptul că la 17 iunie 1889 la această biserică a fost efectuată slujba de înmormântare a marelui Mihai Eminescu. În dreapta jos, apare cu negru semnătura artistului: „ISER”.

The work depicts a significant social event: the procession that took place during the reburial of Constantin Brâncoveanu at Sfântul Gheorghe Nou Church on May 21st, 1934. Centrally we see the square in front of the church, crowded with many groups of people who came to witness the event. In the background we can observe the church, framed by tall, green trees. On either side of the square there are buildings with shops on the ground floor. The cortege moves towards the church from the right, orderly, with many national flags marking the importance of the event. Inside the church are two funerary stones, one covering the tomb of Prince Ioan Mavrocordat (1716-1719), and the other, without inscription, is on the tomb of the founder, voivode Constantin Brâncoveanu (1654-1714), killed in Istanbul along with his four sons. It was only at the beginning of the last century that it was discovered that the prince was buried under the unnamed slab. It should also be mentioned that on June 17th, 1889, the funeral service for the great Mihai Eminescu was held at this church. The artist’s signature appears in black at the bottom right: “ISER”.
